The Travel Diary of Ian Lebold
South Dakota, Montana, Idaho, North Dakota - March, 2009

Tire Man

Despite our first “family” cold, my Momma, Daddy and I headed out west.  We landed in Rapid City, South Dakota and visited Mount Rushmore on a sunny but chilly day.  I really loved running around underneath all of the state flags at the visitor center.

Mommy and Ian at Mt. RushmoreFrom Mount Rushmore we went to Crazy Horse Monument.    The museum there is very nice.  We watched a movie about the monument and I even got to keep a piece of the rock that had been blasted away in the carving process. This was a quick and wonderful day while we waited for our lost luggage.

Daddy drove through a terrible snow and ice storm to get to Bozeman, Montana later that evening.  Mommy and Daddy have visited this area many times during this time of year and they said this was the absolute coldest it has ever been - which did not help our colds.

Ina and WolfWe visited Bozeman and Big Sky before heading to West Yellowstone and visiting the bears and wolves at the Discovery Center.  I got to see the wolves up close in a nice, warm indoor building.  I even learned to “HOOOWWWL!” The day ended with a short drive through Idaho beyond West Yellowstone.

We ended our trip driving through North Dakota and visiting Roosevelt National Park where we saw prairie dogs, antelope, horses, elk, and bison.  Since we were all feeling much better towards the end of our trip we finally got to indulge in some delicious foods.  We ate a great Mexican meal at La Playa in Beach, North Dakota.  Mommy and Daddy had the best prime rib dinner they’ve ever eaten at Jambonz in Sturgis, South Dakota.  The restaurant was very kid friendly; I even got to play with a really cool alligator toy until my chicken finger meal was ready.  I can’t wait to visit out west again, only next time I hope we leave our colds at home!
